Course outline

What you’ll study

The foundations of human-computer interaction — humans and machines, interaction and collaboration. Models in HCI — cognitive models, socio-organizational issues and stakeholder requirements, and the importance of cognitive abilities. The design process — interaction-design basics, HCI in the software process, design rules, universal design and user-centred design, prototyping, task analysis, GOMS and other key HCI methods, and lifecycle models. User interfaces — interface basics, interaction techniques, the system control of interfaces, and human factors and strategies in designing interfaces. Evaluation and user support — the evaluation of interfaces and user support. Task models and dialogs — analysing the task, dialog notation and design; groupware, ubiquitous computing, virtual and augmented reality, and the social-cultural contexts of HCI.
